Curriculum
Children learn from a very young age. We encourage children to learn through play. Our service uses practices based on High-Scope methods, where children make decisions about what materials to play with and which activities they want to do. This encourages the children to think for themselves and gives them confidence.
HighScope is a well-researched and comprehensive curriculum model that is used in the United States, Ireland and many other countries around the world. The basic parts of the curriculum help Cherry Orchard’s Early Years Educators to create an effective learning environment and daily routine, interact with children using effective strategies, and provide the content at the heart of preschool teaching and learning. The curriculum also supports our ethos that the well being of all children is essential, each child is unique and should be cherished equally. We also take into account the critical impact of self esteem on children’s development and we aim to fulfil the right of all children and their families to have access to services of high quality.
We strive to:
-
Provide a curriculum that children are actively involved in and gives them choice over their learning
-
Provide a curriculum that promotes children’s development in how they approach learning, social and emotional development, physical development and health, language, literacy and communication, mathematics, creative arts, science and technology and social studies (understanding how people relate to each other)
-
Build a partnership with families based on trust, respect and confidentiality and work together to benefit Early Years Educators, Parents/Carers but most importantly, children.
-
Provide nutritious meals on a daily basis
